CharmTek TPR11 external DAC based on Conexant CX21988 codec

It’s hard to force yourself to do reviews in 35-degree heat. But alas, there is no choice, as a huge amount of goods has accumulated. Today we’ll talk about the external CharmTek TPR11 DAC based on the Conexant CX21988 codec. According to the characteristics, of course, it is not the most top-end, but I would not call it bad either. Maximum resolution in PCM: 96kHz/24bit, DSD format not supported. It is known that the codec of American origin "Conexant CX21988", aka Conexant Freeman II, is hiding inside.

Specifications:

Packaging, equipment.

Regular translucent zip-bag/envelope. All information is printed on a small sticker, we see the name of the device, the name of the chip and the resolution. The packaging is not the most presentable, but what can you do … the seller did not show off.

There are no adapters in the kit, the price affects. But it doesn’t matter, I think that many of you already have a Type-C to USB adapter. Now such adapters are given for a penny.

Appearance

On one side is a Type-C metal case, in which the CX21988 is hidden. The filling here is very modest, a small scarf with a chip. There is a "CharmTek Hi-Fi Audio" decal.

Absolutely any smartphone with a Type-C connector will fit. Unfortunately, the adapter for Micro USB was not included.

Cable in a dense nylon braid, length: 6 centimeters.

This manufacturer has one more DAC, but already on the ALC5686 codec, so they don’t look different at all. The only difference is the application with the name. Moreover, the monitored whistle looks like noname, I don’t see the name itself.

3.5 mm jack, like everyone else, metal and reliable. Headphones with a microphone are supported, more on that later. Detected on any source without connected headphones.

Connect.

The operating system is Windows 10/Windows 8.1/Windows 7. It will most likely run on XP and Vista.
I use mostly 8, but the second system is 10. The good news is that on older versions of Windows, the adapter is detected automatically without drivers. Available maximum resolution: 24/96, this is the limit.

There is support for a headset, the headphone microphone works, all the buttons on the control panel are active.

In Windows there is no ASIO support, in AIMP and Foobar2000 players it is worth choosing Wasapi.

There were no problems on Android either, I launched ONKYO HF Player, then you need to give access and check the box:

Measurements 24/96.
